    I am not using this for water skiing. For that you want a dead man release at the boat. To use it as a trick ski release you need to ensure that the release cord will get pulled if you fall. Depending on what you are doing, that may not be possible. I am using this for tree climbing to release equipment remotely and as a trigger release for a big shot. For this it works better and is much cheaper than the Wichard. Consider the original markets: Kong = young people water skiing -- Wichard = millionaire yachtsmen. Wichard is more polished and available in stronger versions if you care about that. I believe that the Wichard design is meant to avoid the Kong patent.
